Full disclosure: I am not very good with this one – I think because so often, life goes off track, I feel like a failure if it isn’t accomplished, so in some ways, it’s less crushing if there isn’t a set deadline.
But… without a deadline, you really have nothing to aim for. It doesn’t become really tangible, you don’t really become INVESTED in it.
So, a good balance is to set a deadline, and take small action steps to get there. By deadline, you may not be there, but you will be closer than if you hadn’t set a deadline and taken action. Extend the deadline and keep going – an extended deadline is better than never even beginning!
Meal prep Monday! I don’t prepare whole meals, but I make sure my breakfasts and my snacks are taken care of – those are important. Our lunches the next day are from the night before’s dinner, and we are the type to pick dinner based on our craving at the time.
But still, getting my preworkouts, my snacks, and my breakfasts ready is a huge step towards staying in line with my goals.
Be willing to take the 30-60 minutes to set yourself up for the week. It is these seemingly small gestures/actions that will have the greatest impact on how your week goes!
And before you protest – tough love time – you DO have the time to do this. When you know you are worth the effort – and you ARE – you MAKE the time!
Where are all my fellow planners at!? There is nothing wrong with planning… but you also have to be executing, and doing the work. You can plan and plan and plan til the cows come home, but without actually setting those plans into motion, you are gonna hit the wall, the dead end quickly.
In fact, my Beachbody business has taught me to adapt a bit more – I am still a planner by my very nature, but I am getting better at going with the flow, and executing, and leaning as I go instead of waiting for a plan to be perfect before I begin to execute.
Make sure you are focusing more on putting in the work – executing – and less on planning!
Wanna know a secret? At any given time I have a notebook with me. Sometimes its my big one, sometimes its a littler one, but I always have something I can jot an idea, a note, a “must do” item down on – inspiration tends to strike at the most random of times (my caveat here is that many of MINE tend to come to me while I am driving, thus unable to write them down, so I repeat it to myself in the hopes I will remember to write it down once I have parked!)
A blank notebook becomes a suggestion box for your brain, opening you up to new ideas, thoughts, concepts… you never know what will make it’s way in there!
(note: I realize that in today’s digital age, the Notepad on our phones is more convenient – I also use this sometimes, but personally, I LOVE writing, and I love putting pen to paper. The premise remains the same – when a thought occurs, note it down, however you choose to do it!)
So tell me, are you a digital or an old fashioned pen to paper fan?
So many of us fear FAILURE, when really, what we should fear is being in the SAME place NEXT year!
Ever felt like you were on auto pilot? Like you don’t remember how you got from one place to another? Are you wandering aimlessly in your life? Are you leaving it all up to chance?
This life? This is YOUR life. You get ONE. You get one life to LIVE. To experience the abundance this world has to offer. To BE. To FEEL. To LEARN. To ENJOY. To dream and strive, achieve and believe, to LIVE. To be yourself, and who you were put on this earth to be. Fully and unapologetically. Fiercely and fabulously.
You can’t SHINE on auto pilot. You have to choose your direction – mindfully and consciously. You have to choose how you want to feel. You have to strive to feel alive, invigorated, purposeful… FULFILLED.
Want something? Put your intention out there! Claim it by name, ask for it, and GO for it.
No matter what anyone says, your success is tied to your efforts. I know, I sometimes wanna call BS on this too, but nope, it’s true…
Your effort indicates how bad you want something, how many times you are willing to fail and fail again, and it also shows how willing you are to WORK for what you want, instead of having it handed to you (probably easier, yes, but definitely not nearly as meaningful, in my opinion!)
If you aren’t willing to make 100% effort, then, in all honesty, it doesn’t give the impression you really want something. Go on, go give it your all, and let me know how it works out for you!
Not that you need anyone’s permission to be successful, but sometimes it’s a good idea to Tap on that, and make it known to yourself that you do, in fact, have permission to be successful!
I love Brad and his Tapping videos – have you tried them?
As with all things, your intention is key! Seek knowledge, not results.
If you choose to focus on the excitement of discovery, improving, exploring and experimenting, your motivation will always be fueled.
Conversely if you choose to focus only on the results, your motivation won’t be able to sustain the ebbs and flows of life.
So the key here is to focus on the JOURNEY not the destination! Be open minded about what you can learn along the way, and be humble enough to be willing to improve!
Helen Keller. Thomas Edison. Ludwig van Beethoven. Lou Ferrigno. Juliette Low.
All of these names are well known, because each of these people did AMAZING things. The most amazing of all might be that they all OVERCAME hearing impairments in pursuit of their goals and accomplishments!
I will confess, at a younger age, I thought my own personal hearing loss was a dead end for many things. I didn’t know technology was going to make so many things so much easier, and I didn’t realize that one could still be successful despite the loss of a major sense. The age I lost my hearing is a critical time for self development, and I will confess my sudden hearing loss left me mentally and emotionally crippled for some time.
But that was way back then… this is now!
Someday, I see my OWN name associated with success despite hearing loss. I KNOW I can do anything I want. I know I can achieve anything I set my mind to. I know I will face OBSTACLES, but those are simply my OPPORTUNITIES – to rise, to shine, to overcome… to find a workaround!
I know my hearing loss can’t stop me. If anything, I vow to let it propel me.
Obstacles into opportunities!
