Some runs just suck. I’m just keeping it real.
Luckily, not the majority.
But some do. And today was one. I woke when it got light out and hit the roads, not realizing til too late the thick, strangulating air that’s been my biggest nemesis this summer was baaack.
And it wrecked me. 😩
Most who know me know my penchant for even, rounded figures, and I’m known to lap up and down my short side street in order to get my run to full miles… but today that last .19 wasn’t in me.
It was the first run where I actually questioned if I was gonna get sick so I opted to just get myself hope and call it a day.
Because we can’t be badasses every day… we need some humbling days to balance us out and remind us the good days far outnumber the bad ones 😉
And here we have what I call my “whatthefuckjusthappened” face…
Great weather (at least at the hour I was out there!) for some running… continuing the quest towards 175 miles!
It was 60° out when I ran, which is pretty cool after the summer of humidity we have had – I am personally looking forward to Fall for running purposes. The summer temps coupled with humidity are not very kind to a runner!
Racked up 4.2 miles today, clocking the first at 8:56 and the last at 6:27 – this splits stuff is pretty awesome and definitely shows me I usually finish stronger than I start!
It was also nice to be able to breathe while running
What’s YOUR Saturday sweat?
If you are lucky enough to have a husband who turns the AC on in your bedroom to cool it off and fills your water jug while you are out running, so both are ready to cool you off post-run, I suggest keeping him 😉
Simple gestures can have the most impact!
3 miles in the books for today – the sun isn’t out but I still sweat like crazy when I run, so these gestures are always extra appreciated!
Do you sweat a lot when you run?
By 0730 I’d already gotten a run in and done a 47 minute booty workout. My little legs are TOAST! But I’m glad I got some mileage in – it’s a nice running day, not scorching hot!
Now to run some errands, prep some thangs and then for the rest of the day you can find me celebrating this amazing country with amazing people.
(And if I don’t get up to greet you it’s because like I said, my little legs are DONE, haha)
What are you up to today?
Today wasn’t a 5k but, because I want to run at least once a week, I went out for a two mile jaunt.
I also shocked myself by apparently crushing incline?! Haha, running never ceases to make me shock myself!
It’s important to note that years past I would have insisted that my Map My Run app was broken and I didn’t REALLY run a 6.5 minute mile… but I’m tired of always taking away from my own achievements. I’m always encouraging others to own their badassery, time to walk that walk!
Raise your hand if your hamstrings were so sore you went to sleep on an ice pack last night?
Totally normal – a reentry into the running world, (especially at that pace 😉) after an almost 6 month hiatus… of course you’re gonna be feeling that!
Here’s where I know I’ve evolved; been empowered and enlightened. The OLD way of thinking would be “I’m sore, that’s a good reason to skip my workout” whereas now I know that MOVING my sore muscles will help get the blood flowing and ease the soreness, so it’s in fact a good reason NOT to skip a workout.
Plus I mean it’s Monday, so I had twice the incentive to move it!
Who else got Monday’s workout in?
So this morning was my first run/5k since November, and post-80 Day Obsession/Ultimate Reset.
All my runner friends who did 80DO said the program helped their endurance/stamina and so I was hopeful but also skeptical (I’ve gotten my hopes up ENOUGH this week only to have ‘em dashed down, haha)
Well, here we are… having shaved 1:19 off my average pace, I’d say 80 Day Obsession helped MY endurance too!
And FUCK YEAH I’m stoked about THESE numbers! My first 5k I averaged over 11 minutes! (And today’s run was with a sore arch from the yellow jacket sting, too!)
Cheers to always improving!
