Sunday Well Spent – Prep!

A couple of weeks ago I was chatting with someone who messaged me about my food prep post, saying “I wish I had time to meal prep!” and so since I was curious, I asked how she spends her time, because not to be a jerk, but this person is very active on social media – mine and her own, which eats up a lot of our free time, but people don’t seem to realize that…

So she said she works (I do, too), and she has to clean her house (I do, too), run errands (yep) and stuff like that, which are totally valid…

But it’s worth noting that my food prep takes me an hour. Yes, I realize I’m lucky not to have to prep for dinner and such, but to act like you don’t have an hour to set yourself up for success is just not realistic – you DO have an hour, you are just dedicating it to something you find more important.

Sorry, but I’m not sugarcoating stuff anymore – you MAKE TIME for what’s important, so if keeping up to date with Sally’s dating life is more important than prepping your food, BE HONEST with yourself about that.

Because, we all GET the same 24 hours in a day, we just don’t all UTILIZE them the same way.

STOP making excuses and START making effort, and you’ll find you DO have time.

(I say all of this with love, of course)

And what do you know – today the same person sent me a text with a pic of food and said she was getting ready to prep it all! I’m a proud mama bear right now 💕

My prep is done – how about you?

Sunday Well Spent – Prep That Food!

When it’s not even 0930 and your food prep is already done 👌🏼

I actually have had a lot of people who have been so sweet and complimented me on how well I’m doing in pregnancy nutrition so far, and while I have my struggles like anyone else, there are a few key things that help me…

• Making the time to set myself up for success and ease of access. It doesn’t take long, but it makes a huge difference!
• Having a supportive husband who handles the bulk of the meal cooking (I don’t mind prep but I don’t love cooking, haha) and ensures we get nourishing, nutritious foods.
• Allowing myself treats when the urge strikes and not feeling guilty about it. Life IS about balance, and as long as treats are your exception not your rule, they won’t override all your other nutrition efforts. Have the mindset that it’s okay to enjoy them and then ACTUALLY do just that.

In the end, no one is perfect and no one should be striving for that… but I’m here to tell you that actually taking a little time to set yourself up is a fantastic way to love and honor yourself (and in my case, also love and honor the life growing inside of me!)

Surf and Turf Saturday!

When your husband grills up surf and turf for dinner 😍 (with chimichurri!)

Yummmmm, so good.

Growing up in Rhode Island, where you can’t spit without hitting the ocean, seafood has always been delicious for me – so fresh and so omnipresent.

We don’t have it as much as I would like because dinner leftovers become lunch leftovers, and we both work in office settings and I would never be that person that reheats seafood in a setting like that, but we love to have it on weekends!

Do you like seafood?

Good Eats – Craving Brussels Sprouts

Some days, I have no idea what I want for dinner.
Other days, I only know what protein I want.
And others, I only know what veg I’m craving (the recurring craving theme in my pregnancy so far has been vegetables, much like most of my life!)

Today I was craving Brussels sprouts, and grass fed beef was on sale, so that became our delicious dinner plan! Topped with Rhode Island mushrooms 😍

Did you have any pregnancy cravings?

Truthbomb Tuesday – Nutrition

I try to live by the “if your food can go bad, it’s good for you” rule – the stuff that can survive on shelves for months is not good for you!

When you nourish yourself and your body with real, whole foods, you get the natural energy from foods, not the sluggish, fatigued feeling.

Key takeaway here: nutrition is NOT about deprivation! Deprivation usually leads to desperation, and you know how ugly THAT can get! All things in moderation, guys!
