Transformation Tuesday – Growth

Today’s transformation doesn’t include a picture, because how do you capture a picture of a shy, timid, slinking back, never-really-engaging girl who barely made a peep, versus the girl who’s engaged, who asks questions, who offers answers, input, value… how do you capture the HUGE surge of confidence, the enlightening empowerment, the self love to realize you are WORTHY of your dreams; you are CAPABLE of accomplishments?

How do you capture someone no longer being afraid to speak up, someone finding their voice?

How do you capture the feeling associated with realizing your passion, your potential, your PURPOSE?

You can’t. You can’t capture that in a side by side picture. I can only show you how happy and vibrant I FEEL now.

The real transformation is how I FEEL. I feel CONFIDENT. I know my PURPOSE. I know what EXCITES me. I feel strong, I feel my comfort zone is no longer even visible, I feel empowered and excited for what’s to come. I feel hopeful, helpful, and respected.

I didn’t always feel that way. That’s why this transformation, one of the few that CAN’T be captured via photographic evidence, is one of the most meaningful – I have the confidence to go after my dreams now instead of just sitting back, watching everyone else go after theirs.

I was scared, nervous and unsure… but I showed up.

Growth is awesome!

Flex Friday – Back

This is an EMOTIONAL flex pic to post…

See, there was a time when not only were my back/shoulders not muscular, but they were in PAIN. Two back to back accidents where I was rear ended had them fragile and weak.

At one point, it was painful to even carry a purse, and I have never been the type to carry a heavy purse loaded with everything but the kitchen sink, but it was painful to even have a small purse with just my wallet and cell phone in it.

And if you have ever had a back/shoulder injury, you know how it affects EVERY part of your body, so all of me was becoming a pile of weak mush. I almost didn’t even accept Rebecca’s invite to her Challenge Group, citing my back injuries and how I was still having pain and spasms, even several years removed from the accidents.

But I said YES. I modified HEAVILY, but I kept going. If something caused actual pain, I eased up a little, but I kept moving on a regular basis.

As I strengthened my CORE, I strengthened EVERYTHING, so my back spasms CEASED, the pain SUBSIDED for the most part (still have the occasional day where my lower back is a little tender), and I got stronger and stronger.

And so here we are today – I regularly complete intense programs with no pain. I have some muscles, and some definition. I feel strong.

And I can truly say, when I was in the throes of feeling weak and in pain, I TRULY never thought the day would come where I not only FEEL strong, but I can SEE evidence of my strength and how far I have come, too.

Don’t let your current circumstances keep you from starting – the name of the game is modifying until you don’t have to anymore. I speak from experience; I am living PROOF.

Thankful Thursday – Beachbody

Stark contrast.

My very first job, at the tender age of 16, the manager didn’t even want to hire me (she wanted someone who could also answer the phones…) and it wasn’t until she was reminded about DISCRIMINATION, that she agreed to hire me. And to some level, that experience has always stayed with me…

In companies where everyone is just trying to get ahead, it means a lot to me that Beachbody is so diligent in making sure those of us with hearing impairments get a level playing field, and they do this in many ways, but some of the most notable are transcribing their weekly National Wakeup Calls, and captioning every training/promotional video they do, and while that may be wasted on some people, it is certainly not wasted on me, and I am so very grateful and thankful they do this. It’s quite a contrast, and they do it willingly and happily.

Technology is a beautiful thing, and a company making the effort to make everything accessible is a HUGE part of why I am grateful for this platform.

Could you use such a platform with which to better YOUR life?

Friday Fit Tip – Pre- and Post-Workout Nutrition

Simple facts today – you h ave to properly fuel your workout, AND your recovery. Preworkout for me is Greek yogurt, flax, and berries, sometimes with a little agave. And I take the guesswork out of postworkout, usually, by having Recover from Beachbody’s Performance Line, because it’s simple and effective, and gives me another excuse to enjoy a chocolate flavored beverage guilt free!

But you must fuel yourself properly if you truly want to maximize your efforts!

Whats your pre/post workout fuel?

Wellness Wednesday – Integrity is Important

Why do I choose Shakeology? Their philosophy aligns with mine. They believe a product is more than just throwing in powders and having at it. They believe in making sure the ingredients work together synergistically, and deliver on what it is they are supposed to deliver on!

Integrity is big in my world, and time and time again, Beachbody proves it’s big in theirs, too!

Make It Happen Monday – Accountability is the game changer

How times change…
I used to go to the gym, wander aimlessly, hit up a few machines (with absolutely zero regard for safety or proper form, CRINGE!), and then meander my way out for half priced apps with coworkers, effectively UNDOING all of my hard work, because I had nothing and no one to hold me ACCOUNTABLE; my dirty secret was known only by those joining me for those apps, and they were doing the same thing, so why would they hold me accountable?! We enabled each other!
Enter Beachbody. Enter Challenge groups, Accountability Groups, my teammates, the people down in the trenches with me in the DAILY BATTLE to get healthy and stay as healthy as I can…
And do you know what? That accountability has truly, TRULY made all the difference. Do I still indulge? Fuck yeah, I like health but life is also short, you gotta have balance, you know?! Do I sometimes not feel like working out? Yep, believe it or not, those days ABSOLUTELY happen — and thats when I click on the group, see everyone else posting their accountability, and remember how good it feels to WORK on yourself, and 99% of the time, I power through the workout and feel better for it afterwards.
Am I perfect? HARDLY. Am I progressing? ABSOLUTELY. The power of a like-minded community is incredible; without these groups I would never have gotten into the habit of working out consistently (AND focusing on form!) 5-6 times a week. I wouldn’t make treats the exception, not the rule. I WOULD let my excuses, my cozy bed, and my lack of energy stop me from working on being the best ME I can BE.
∗ OPEN INVITE ∗ With all sincerity here – if YOU need support, if YOU need accountability and a safe place to share the highs and lows, seek motivation and inspiration, and share in a powerful community who truly believe in you, and want to see you succeed – let’s chat, because we would love to have you! There is strength in numbers, and the bond of an accountability group is POWERFUL!
