Balanced Living – Balance in all things

We spent the whole weekend at the pool which means I ate all the things… all of ‘em!

Some healthy, some not as healthy… that’s balance.

But what I love about my attitude towards food is that I don’t punish or berate myself for enjoying things that might not be high on the “good for me” list, because I know I will bounce right back and actually crave/enjoy things that ARE good for me. By embracing this balance, I eliminate that awful feeling of guilt, which I’m sorry, is not a flavor I am fond of 😉

After eating all the things this weekend, my body craves fresh veggies and so, that’s what my body gets – spinach topped with veggies.

Balance.

Did you find the balance between nutrient-dense foods and treats during your pregnancy?

Treats from the Grill – Chicken wings!

When my husband makes his famous (and delicious!) chicken wings on the grill, I get beyond happy! 😍

Do you like chicken wings? Got any favorite sauces? My husband has tons of different concoctions he whips up, so we never get bored… after all, very IS the spice of life!

Kara Keepin’ it Real – SO GLAD THE HOLIDAYS ARE OVER!

You know why I’m RELIEVED today is Monday, the day after Easter?!

I’ll tell you!

I’m relieved because finally, today means a rough 6 month stretch of holidays full of sweets and treats (and coworkers who bring those treats into the office…) is OVER.

It starts with Halloween and segues quickly into Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve. We get a verrrry brief reprieve before we are bombarded with Valentine’s Day stuff, and then Easter is close on the tail of Cupid’s day.

And I swear, each year these holidays get more and more centered around junk; that or I’m just getting more sensitive to/aware of how many treats we consume during these times.

And I never seek the stuff out, but when it’s made available/in front of me, I definitely have my weaknesses, and I definitely give in sometimes.

Which there is nothing wrong with the occasional treat… but I’m not gonna sit here and act like I’m not relieved this holiday stretch is over, BECAUSE I AM 😉

It is a rough stretch for most people, and I am no different!

Adventures in Pregnancy – SLEEP

When your shirt basically calls out the reason you didn’t get up and get an official workout in…

Part of pregnancy, for me, is striking the balance between the movement I need and love, but also being gentle and getting sleep while it’s a little easier.

And today was one of those days with no work and nowhere to be very early, I could sleep in a bit. And then I did do a few reps of some movement, and since we’re also gonna be gettin’ our groove on at the Oblivious Fools show today, I’ll call it a good balance.

Because sleep is freakin’ awesome, mannnn 💕

Life is Short – Eat the Zeppole!

We are having our yumminess a day late, because I was too full yesterday!

Baby will enjoy his or her first zeppole, and so won’t mom and dad!

Would I eat this every day? No (but I could, easily!) but I look forward to this splurge every year and I enjoy every bite with absolutely ZERO guilt.

I’ll take some extra insulin and enjoy every morsel – Diabetic or not, life is short; you DO have to live a little, dontcha know?! 😉

Did you enjoy a zeppole this year?

Sunday Vibes – Balance is KEY

So when I post things like pics of lasagna, or last nights cheesy as eff au gratin, it usually gets me a private message or two from well meaning (I hope?!) people who ask if as a Diabetic, I should be eating that?

For me personally, I’m fine with indulgences like that because I go to great lengths to make the majority of my nutrition cleaner and healthier, so those treats are just that – treats.

They are the exception, not the rule.

I don’t believe in deprivation, I believe in LIVING life while we have a life to live, and YES, that includes things like cheesy potatoes and cinnamon rolls, too!

The rest of my life is balanced out enough between my nutrition and my fitness efforts that I don’t order a side of guilt when I indulge – I ENJOY it and recognize it as the TREAT it is.

Balance means different things for different people, but I love that so many people follow my journey!

Saturday Strong – Nevertheless She Persisted

Everyone has hardships.
Everyone has obstacles.
Everyone has bad days.

That’s part of life… those not-so-good things {{hopefully}} make you appreciate the good things even more.

Those things only define you if you •let• them.

I’m no different. I’ve faced hard stuff. I’ve scaled obstacles. And I sure as shit have had bad days.

I do not let them define me.

No way am I letting a little not-so-good override lots of good.

‘Nevertheless, she persisted.’

Is that you? 💕
