Saturday Sweat – It’s OKAY to PAUSE!

It doesn’t matter how many times you hit PAUSE and catch your BREATH. What matters is you don’t STOP and catch your EXCUSES.

My capabilities are certainly more limited during pregnancy due to the nature of, you know, how hard a body works to grow a healthy human… but I’m still capable, and so I still show up.

I break more, I do fewer reps, my weights are lighter, I take two rest days instead of 1 now and I go at my own pace, but all of that is STILL better than using any excuse in the book to skip.

My baby/body/pregnancy are WHY I’m moving, not a free pass to skip every day. I’m no better than anyone, I just KNOW I’m worth the effort, limited or otherwise.

And pssst… you are too.

Saturday Sweat – Back at it!

Mannnn it felt good to get back to it today!

I did a workout designed specifically for the second trimester; it was all strength training, no cardio (my preference, if we’re being 100% honest!) and it felt so good after a few days off and a good stretch yesterday!

And lending more credence to my theory that my daily movement seriously helps stabilize my blood sugars, things have been MUCH better the last two days (days I moved) versus the three days that I didn’t!

Flex Friday – Back

See, there was a time when not only were my back/shoulders not muscular, but they were in PAIN. Two back to back accidents where I was rear ended had them fragile and weak.

At one point, it was painful to even carry a purse, and I have never been the type to carry a heavy purse loaded with everything but the kitchen sink, but it was painful to even have a small purse with just my wallet and cell phone in it.

And if you have ever had a back/shoulder injury, you know how it affects EVERY part of your body, so all of me was becoming a pile of weak mush. I almost didn’t even accept Rebecca’s invite to her Challenge Group, citing my back injuries and how I was still having pain and spasms, even several years removed from the accidents.

But I said YES. I modified HEAVILY, but I kept going. If something caused actual pain, I eased up a little, but I kept moving on a regular basis.

As I strengthened my CORE, I strengthened EVERYTHING, so my back spasms CEASED, the pain SUBSIDED for the most part (still have the occasional day where my lower back is a little tender), and I got stronger and stronger.

And so here we are today – I regularly complete intense programs with no pain. I have some muscles, and some definition. I feel strong.

And I can truly say, when I was in the throes of feeling weak and in pain, I TRULY never thought the day would come where I not only FEEL strong, but I can SEE evidence of my strength and how far I have come, too.

Don’t let your current circumstances keep you from starting – the name of the game is modifying until you don’t have to anymore. I speak from experience; I am living PROOF.

Y’all! A new program is available with Beachbody – I have done the Sneak Peeks and it looks awesome!

I am excited to give this one a whirl – three short weeks of progressing from basic 25 minute workouts to advanced 45 minute routines – all while honing my nutrition for optimal results? JUST what I needed after some NOLA indulgences! *wink*

Try It Tuesday – Beachbody All Access

I used to think “results? From my living room? With no gym equipment?! Pfffft”

I mean… I had questions! Like..

  • How would I know when to do what workout?
  • How could I keep myself motivated?
  • How exactly would anyone know if I did my workout or not?
  • How would I know what to fuel my body with to stay on track?

  • These same groups provide the accountability to keep us on track. We interact and engage daily, sharing our workouts, and anything else. We hold each other accountable, help each other through the struggles and cheer each other through the triumphs!

It’s actually simple. Show up. Follow the plan. Use food as fuel, not a crutch for emotions (a treat here and there is encouraged!). Participate in the groups. Believe in yourself!
